However listening to credible sources like Business News Daily will give most marketers a leg up.
Obviously if future marketers were to utilize this advice it would not only make sense for your company but would need a lot of research and hands on experience. The Tech Industries Public Relations

Prior to blogging for class, I did not know that there were so many real world examples out there of what text books described when it comes to Public Relations. Once I got on the web in order to find relavent topics to discuss for this blog concerning trend in this field, I found so much more than I ever imagined was actually out there. Even the business insider has issues on shout outs and acknowledging individuals who are making a difference, and I have to admit that is very exciting. Seeing the structure of old media collapse, and viewing real life examples of the way those barriers are over thrown by the social media platforms overriding with great stories and relatable content.
Here at the business insider we see that specific tech companies are acknowledging their PR people and it is here for everyone to see. No one needed to buy expensive airtime or receive permission from the media to use their fancy ink; these hard working PR people were acknowledged and it is exciting to see that maybe one day, if we work hard, there will be open and public acknowledgments of our hard work too.
The fact that social media has made this kind of information so easy to access or even generate is exciting, and it is everywhere. The more you look for the concepts that we have discussed in our texts or class discussions, you see that examples are all over the web and hopefully one day it will be something that we are actively participating in!

Trends Associated With Reddits Backlash
What I took from this
article about Reddits decision to fire Victoria Taylor was that Reddit had
clearly formed a loyal community. This community backlashed when she was fired
and Reddit lost followership, credibility and confidence from that community.
This goes to show that communities are strong online just as they are in the “real
world”. The PR industry was also shocked by this. The strong PR response also
came from not only shock, but the appreciation of Victoria’s value to the company.
The behavior from the public who was angered by her dismissal from Reddit responded in a very hateful way, attacking the individual who fired Victoria and made it very personal. This is also a “new trend” in the world of media platforms and PR agencies working on an online platform, massive waves of critisim come and there is no way to stop it. People join forces and feed off of each other.
This example with Reddit shows us the power of community instilled in our social media platforms and how people can rise up like an army when they are upset. This is something to be aware of as someone interested in PR. Being knowledgably about things like this can give us a grander scope of things and exactly how intense these types of situations can get. I found this article very fascinating and I think that there is a lot of value from blowouts like this; we learn a lot about how we are behavior in this digital social world.

Public Relations according to 5W
According to 5W: 1.Making friends with the evolved press release, 2. Seizing the power of visuals, 3. Becoming the czar of real-time PR, 4. Increasing your spend on video, 5.Curate Social Media Campaigns with the right kind of tweets, 6. Using Content and Influencer Marketing to Grow Brand Loyalists, 7.Becoming a safety resource, 8.Calling in the cavalry and 9.Thanking your math teacher are all strategic and noted trends, currently in Public Relations. Just like most of these articles I have been reading, I only pick out my favorites to bring to light and comment on because they are the ones I find most interesting and deem the most relevant in accordance to class concepts.
Making friends with evolved press release: “Nobody wants to read.” I can really relate to this concept of here of making it simple, to the point and intriguing. Nobody wants to read a long press release anymore. This part of the article is spot on even just in my personal experiences. Bare and simple with promises of reward for digging in really help capture our attention and keep it.
Seizing the power of visuals: we do often underestimate how valuable visuals are. We do have an information overload happening every day that it seems visuals that catch our eye are what get our attention. In order to tell a story, identify the personality of your online platforms, visuals are the way to capture that essence. Pictures say 1000 words. We have discussed this concept in class many times.
Increasing your spend on video: Just like photos videos can be so much more effective than an overflow of words. People are willing to click on a video that looks interesting, or be captivated by a photo before reading the thousand words that both represent. A video budget is worth the long term investment. Our world is becoming digital and videos are viral.
Lastly, Becoming the czar of real time PR: It seems that this is by far one of the most important concepts in marketing and PR period. Staying relevant and keeping up with time is the way to stay credible and popular. Knowing what is happening as it is happening is power. Getting things out there as fast as possible is one of the most effective strategies in PR. Crisis management also comes to mind; holding a press release too long after an incident, or new information can lead to back lash. Be strategic with your time is part of what makes PR an art. (Attached is an example video)
I found this particular article to be very relevant to our course and I feel that these concepts are really sinking in the more we research outside sources that say the same thing that our book and concepts from class do.
